Blackwell National Research Institute

Empowering the next generation of researchers and their educators.
Our mission is to provide a forum for early-career scientists to learn about and contribute to science and engineering research.

What we do

Established in 2023, the Blackwell National Research Institute (BWNRI) provides opportunities for early-career scientists and engineers to contribute to science and engineering research. Together with our research fellows, partners, and community, we generate needed evidence and exploration of key areas of science, from human health to artificial intelligence to physics to robotics. Through research, we’ve given early career scientists the opportunity to solve some of the world’s most complex problems, and identify which problems the youngest generations of scientists wants to tackle in their careers.

BWNRI currently has 50 undergraduate research fellows, 50 high school research fellows, and over 100 graduate research fellows across 22 states and 6 countries.

Blackwell’s research aims to achieve progress in eight impact areas: biology, chemistry, neuroscience, engineering, AI & Machine Learning, physics, and applied mathematics. Blackwell aims to give early career scientists the opportunities to identify important research questions in their areas of interest and contribute to the ongoing scholarship in that area of research.
